Culture settings of SSRS2005

Hi,
I have have a problem with the culture settings in reporting server 2005,
which is different from 2000.
My windows is in german, but I installed the english version of SSRS and
VS.NET.
So the report viewer is displayed in English.
I have a public report parameter defined as date, with default value as
Date.Now(), shown in English Format.
If I view the report with the default values, he complains that he can't
convert the date, he wants the german format.
My question now:
- Why he fills the default value in English, but for working he needs the
german format? It's seems like there are different cultures. With SSRS 2000
this was different.
- How defines SSRS2005 the used culture for formatting and UI?
By Browser? Report cutlure settings? Windows Culture?
Is there any documentation?

Thank you for posting.
Regarding on the culture setting question you mentioned, based on my
understanding, the ReportViewer control is shipped with the VS 2005
development tool , so the UI on the reportviewer is not related to the SQL
Server reporting service. As for SQL Server 2005 reporting service, there
does exists globalization/localizaiton features which depend on the host
machine's locale/language setting and the client-side browser's language
setting. For detailed info, you can have a look at the following MSDN

Culture problem with datepicker in report parameters

Hi,
on the server of a customer I determined the following problem: The customer
installed an English operating system (Windows server 2003) with English SQL
server 2005. I go from a German Client on a report about http://
<servername>/reports (report managers) to calendars in the report parameters
with German format of date as expected there. So far, so well. I turn into
however http:// more <servername>/reportserver on report, are indicated now
everything correctly in the report parameters on German represented indicate
(Tooltips, "Bericht anzeigen" (show report). etc.), only the calendar
strangely enough is in the English format of date. I have tested the same
configuration (likewise with English operating system and English Sql
server; german Client) on a virtual server, and can not reproduce the
problem here. Someone an idea, why I do not get the calendar at the customer
in accordance with the language settings of the client as expected?

the Regional Setting of the Server is German.
I will ask the customer, if they have installed the latest service pack. As
far as I know, they have installed SP2.

the customer has installed SQL Reporting Services Version 9.00.3042.00.
It's strange that every reporting parameter (e.g. Tooltip) is in german
except for the calendar. Is there a possibility to set the
calendar-parameter explicit to german?
I tried to set the default language of the Reports to german/User!Language
but with no effect.

Cubes process forever

So everything has been working fine for 2 months now. Last night some updates got installed. SQL service pack 2 being one of them and some standard windows updates. The server is still running Windows server 2003 service pack 1. I now can't process my cubes or deploy them. It's the only thing that has changed so I am taking it as an assumption. Is there any other reason for cubes to suddenly just sit in the processing state forever?

This is a big problem for me and I am hoping that installing Service pack 2 for the windows server will sort it out but if it doesn't I am pretty much lost. So if you have any ideas please let me know.

Do you make full process? how meny partitions has your database in all cubes together?

I had a similar problem as your one.

It was solved through increasing of <ThreadPool><Process><MaxThreads>

I can't answer your question but I have a similar problem. My processing doesn't take forever, but at least much longer with SP2 (see thread http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1472639&SiteID=1). I was thinking that maybe SP2 use (much) more memory than SP1, and therefore slows down my processing (or in fact all steps in our ETL process). I gonna set up perfmon to monitor memory, cpu and disks.

Vladimir: Was this after you installed SP2? Does <ThreadPool><Process><MaxThreads> apply to SQL Server Standard aswell?

Thanks, this is one partition. If I create a new cube it deploys and processes perfectly, maybe there is something wrong with the cube database, I don't actually know. But I am sure there is a solution out there. I will definitely post it once I have found it.

|||Well for those of you who want to know. I uninstalled and re-installed, went onto sp1 with all the hotfixes and it works perfectly now. I am going to set up a test environment and try duplicate the scenario and see what went wrong where. It doesn't seem to be too common, so I will se what went wrong|||

Something I did was to replace the named queries in the DSV, with index queries ("materialized queries") at the database level. This helps because the DB "precalculates" and actual stores / caches the views resultset, meaning that when the DSV references that indexed query, that there's no "heavy lifting" for the DB to do, so processing is quicker. However, if the named query in your DSV is already pretty basic, and the tables it's referencing are appropriately linked, this approach probably won't buy you much benefit.

cube will not process after SP2 upgrade

Cube Browser

Hi all,
I created a cube in analysis services project in a computer where sql server 2005 is not installed there, when I try to click on Browser tab in the cube, the following error occurs:
TITLE: Microsoft Visual Studio
A connection cannot be made. Ensure that the server is running.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. (System)
An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host (System)

Anyone have any idea on how to solve it? Thanks in advance.

First, please make sure you install Analysis Services on your machine.

After you installed it, you should be able to deploy your project to Analysis Server.

I strongly recommend you try and work you way through tutorial for Analysis Services. Looks like you are missing very basic knowledge.

To make the picture clear, I already have analysis services installed and go through the tutorial provided in BOL, and I managed to get it to work fine in another computer (which I installed sql server with analysis services in it as well for testing purpose). Then I redo the same steps on the another computer (installed with the same settings), the only difference on both computer are testing pc is windows 2000 with latest sp installed, the other one (that I have problem browsing the data) is using windows server 2003. I have no idea how to go about from there, that's why I posted my question here.

Are you an Admin on Win2003 machine?

Can you connect to Analysis Services using SQL Management Studio? Can you see your database ?

The project you develop in BI Dev Studio needs to be deployed. Only after you deploy the project to Analysis Server, you will be able to browse your cube.

After you deployed your cube, you can navigate to it in SQL Management studio and browse it from there.

Ctrl+Tab not working

Having an issue with the navigation keys. When I first installed Studio I could Hold Ctrl and tab through the active windows, then on releasing the buttons I would move to that active window. Now when I press Ctrl+Tab the list will come up, but wont jump to the screen I end on. The quick link window will stay up and the only way I can transfer windows is hitting Enter or clicking on the desired window with my mouse. Any ideas on this "seemingly simple" issue. I went through all of the Tools -> Options window with no luck.Moving to the tools group.

CTP June - Where are Integration Services?

I have just installed the June CTP, during the installation it says that it is installing the Integration Services but they do not seem to be there.

I am happy to admit that I am being dim but I cannot connect using the object browser, nothing is listed if I search for services and there is nothing in the Services list in computer manager.

Can someone explain to me what I am doing wrong? I don't have Visual Studio installed, is that required?

I wanted to know whether the CSDVersion key changes with every service pack
release.
From what I have heard, that is not a reliable measure.

Crystl32 ocx vanished ???

Hi. I'm puzzled. I can't reference to CR from within VB6. I have both
VB6 and VS.Net installed on my machine, and from VB.NET I can insert
the component Crystal Reports (which sets a refernce to C:\Program
Files\Common Files\Crystal
Decisions\1.0\Managed\CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll which
is version 9.1.3300.0. However, from within VB6 I can't set any
reference to this dll.

I have not really used Crystal Reports from VB6 before, so I don't know
how to do it. I know for sure that it is possible to do it, though, so
I'm trying.

The client does not want to use .Net (actually, some of the machines
this little utility program will be installed on are running Win98), so
I need to use VB6.

I searched my drive for any OCX ressembling Crystal, and I couldn't
find anything. When I tried to reference the above-mentioned dll, VB6
says "Can't add a reference to the specified file". I thought that
maybe when I installed VS6 I forgot to install Crystal as an option,
but no, Crystal is not even mentioned in the installation routine.

Please tell me, how can I start producing a report from VB6 ?

Thank you very much, Alex.That is because the CR that is bundled with .NET is a lite version of CR. Not to mention that is is the .NET compatible version and should give the errors when trying to reference from a VB6 project. You need the Full version of CR so it will be available in either development environment.|||Yes, thank you, Rob, but it's still confusing: VB6 did not come with a crystl32.ocx (of some version, whatever that might have been) ? I do *NOT* want to necessarily use the .NET version - the old (vb6) version would do jut fine, in this particular case..

Alex.|||If you are using vb6 there still may be something you can do. On the VB6 CD there is a old version of the CR ocx. I think its Crystal.ocx or Crystal32.ocx version 4.6. I dont think its that powerful but if your only needing something basic it may help.
