Cumulative update packages for Post-SP2 changes in SQL2005

Hi !
I see there are quite a few cumulated post-SP2 packages that have been
built, some of which fix errors that I have been experiencing in my
environment.
I have doubts if that's good practice to apply those cumulative packages to
my life production servers... is it ?
Any idea on how long we have to wait until SP3 will be built ?

I can't say if/when SP3 is due, but most of the post SP2 hotfixes require
you to contact PSS for them. In general hotfixes are cumulative so you only
need to apply the last one.

I did contact MS about the cumulative packages, and I did receive one from
them for 1 or 2 weeks ago, I think it's number 5.
1) I haven't had the guts yet to apply them, so the question is, should I
apply them to my production servers ?
2) Will I have to uninstall them before applying SP3 ?

You should apply any service pack or hotfixes to a test machine and make
sure they work as expected and don't break anything else, once satisfied you
can then apply them to a production system, but make sure that you have a
rollback process and recovery procedures in place to copy with any
eventuality.
You should be able to apply any new hotfix/service pack ontop of the one you
have providing the version number is higher.

We are running CU2 on one production system and are looking at upgrading to
either CU5 or CU6 but only after fully testing on Development and Acceptance
servers first. On one server we get mini dumps associated with a fix
included in CU4.

Hi,
Is the "Cumulative update package2 for SQL2005 SP2"
(http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936305) cluster aware? Or do it need to be
installed on each cluster node?

You need to install service pack on SQL Instance (NODE1) and binaries get
copied to the second(passive) node.
If you have ACTIVE/ACTIVE configuration then you need to install an both
sql instances

Cube deployment hangs

Hi,

SQL2005 RTM

I work with offline cubes projects. When I change the cube dimensions, it sometimes happen that the deployment hangs. The deployment is set not to process the cube.

Then When I look into the Analysis services service status, I see that it is stopped!

I can sometimes get out of it by restarting the service or if really bad, restart the server, then the deploy works.

What's that?

Thanks, but I will first try on a Guinea Pig Computer because SP1 brings other bugs and I do not want to apply SP1 HotFixes in emergency mode.
I am really really concerned about SP1 I do not dare to install it, it is just too risky. I guess I could not even uninstall it and would have to reformat and rebuild if SP1 screw me-up.
What I really want to do is to wait for SP1a so SP1 bad bugs like Integration services not working will not hit me as a two-one punch.

When I deploy a cube it starts processing then comes up with the error
"connection was either timed out or lost". This also manages to stop the
Analysis Services Service on the Server.
Any ideas?

CSV Exports are not as expected, columns are missing

I use SQL2005. I have a hard time understanding the reason why the CSV exports are not exporting the report with all the columns. Only the first column of data is exported.
example, I have report like this

Product Customer Jan Feb Mar Apr Jun

p1 C1 12 3 13 7 20

After csv export, I get a bunch of label down the rows, then I see my Product and Customer columns but I can only see Jan. Feb Mar Apr and Jun are NOT exported.

All these columns have exactly the same settings and the report is not a matrix report.

When I export to Excel or HTML, the result is perfect.

Any idea?

There is a bug here : when Output is set Auto it is translated to No for table columns with Hidden set to an expression.

The workaround is to set Output to Yes for textboxes which should be exported.
